The Word became flesh and blood,
and moved into the neighborhood.
We saw the glory with our own eyes,
the one-of-a-kind glory,
like Father, like Son,
Generous inside and out,
true from start to finish.
John 1:14 MSG
At the moment of conception, Jesus Christ left the ultimate perfection of the Trinity, divine and uncontainable, to be contained- fully God, fully man in human form. He left brilliant glory to be hungry, to be dirty, to be sick, to be lonely, to navigate every single experience common to humanity, and ultimately to lay himself down for us.
And so this Christmas, as I leave behind what is familiar for something completely new, and I leave the ones I love fiercely, I have that truth deep in my heart. I'll leave on a jet plane and travel 10,000 miles away from here- and anything that is difficult about leaving my family is made softer when I experience it in light of all Christ did to come to us.

Here's the thing. Amidst all the dirt and difficulty, amidst missing your babies and home, you will find home there. You will find brothers and sisters. You will find joy radiating against what seems such a bleak backdrop. And along with understanding the agony and the difficulty of Christ's coming to us, you will understand His joy. And the love that compelled you to take pills and get shots and fly half-way round the world will be His love. And you yourself will be Incarnation for those you encounter.
Godspeed to you in your travels. I look forward to reading about it here.
amen.
Praying for you. For your trip over, and your time there. That the Lord will shake you, teach you more about his amazing ways, his amazing love, that you might be so encouraged and changed that when you are home again we here will be encouraged and changed in new ways to glorify and honor him more. That we might be able to better show and share his love.
LOVE you friend. xoxo.
Merry Christmas!
Thanks ladies. At this point, there's been so much anticipation, I'm excited to just DO THIS THING! Looking forward to bringing Africa back here...
