I walked in to the kitchen last week to find this.... I know, I know. So sad. You're also thinking so gross, right? But, WAAAAIT!- Lest you think Nemo is, well, swimming with the fishes- Upon seeing the above sight, I let out an instant GASP! And do you know what happened?! Nemo flipped right over as if startled awake, and started swimming like it was no 'thang. I was sure he was sick. When the girls got up from their naps I explained to them that Nemo was dying, and they should say their goodbyes. They understood and Patie told everyone it would be OK, because when he's gone, they can just remember the good times they had with him. Nice. A day went by. Nemo still kept inverting himself, floating at the top. Otherwise he acted normally, but this was weird fish behavior and obviously the end was near. Or not. A week later, he's still fine. He eats, plays, swims like a pro, like this....
Then, when he wants to be chill, he lets himself go and floats to the top. Nearly every time I walk by this is how he looks, if he's not swimming. I see him there, his body still, his little white belly breaking the surface of the water, and for a few days I was just waiting for the time he would be dead. But no, every time I check on him, there's his little gills doing their thing, his little fish lips doing the little blub-blub that fish lips do. If he sees me he rights himself right away, like a dog rolling over and getting up again for a treat. Apparently, he's picked up a new talent, he just wants a change because he's bored, or perhaps this just makes him smarter, I don't know.

Your fish is a opossum! Trying to play dead! Either to save himself from the kiddos, or to amuse you all and get attention. LOL
I think that is just plain hysterical! :)
Thanks for sharing your fishy story!
I had a fish that did that when I was a teacher. Try explaining life and death to 25 kindergartners in a public school. Not fun! If I would have been smart I would have flushed Rainbow, our fish, at the first "fake" death!
