A couple of weeks ago we had an "incident" with our cable internet. Well, over the last 2 and a half years of living here, we've had several "incidents" with our cable company, who shall remain nameless (I'll only say the first part of their name is Mid. The second part sounds a lot like Incompetent). Because all the lines for phone and cable for the condos around us are controlled by boxes attached to our condo, we see a lot of the cable/phone people. It seems like every time someone new moves in our service is accidentally interrupted, or shut off altogether. The BEST example was the time the new neighbors moved in and the phone guy disconnected the line going to our phone in the kitchen and connected it to our neighbor's phone so when it rang it was actually their phone, we'd pick it up, then we'd hear them talking to someone. It took a little while to figure that one out, since we were still getting our own phone calls in the basement and our bedroom. The latest saga started when our internet stopped working. I let it go for a day thinking it would come back- we were gone anyway. It didn't come back. I did the disconnect the modem and turn it back on thing. It didn't work. I had seen the cable guy working outside our house two days before and now it seemed obvious MidIncompetent had done it again. Jim went over to the neighbor's house to see if they'd had anything connected/disconnected because our service was shut off. He said they'd just added the Internet. THEN he said the cable guy had come over and informed them that WE had been STEALING their cable TV and he kindly disconnected our illegal line for them. WHAT?! We don't have/want cable and certainly haven't been stealing it! If Jim had never gone over to talk to the neighbors, they would've gone on thinking we'd been stealing from them! And, the cable guy never bothered to come talk to us about it- just thought he'd disconnect it, ruin our reputation with our neighbors and call it a day. AGH! We called them and had them come over that day and fix it, thankyouverymuch.
